'Recorded' (his words) rather than produced two of my all time favourite LPs in 'Surfer Rosa" by Pixies and 'Seamonsters' by The Wedding Present. A sometimes outspoken but principled man. Often wish I could have a career as uncompromised as he had. His own work with Bg Black, Rapeman and Shellac was not for Radio 2. My favourite was and remains "Kerosene".

RIP Steve. Best drum sound ever.
