Re: Steve cooper
I criticised him quite often last season for his tactics and lack of subs, and when using subs using like for like - but this season his all round managerial attributes seems 100% better.
No matter the quality of your squad or players, you don't sit where we are or have our defensive strengths and winning habit without the players gelling with the manager, trusting his tactics and all playing for each other.
Take a bow Steve, you deserve it.

Re: Steve cooper
Well I reckon I was his most abusive critic, and I absolutely stand by the fact that I believe he talked his way into the job on powerpoint by claiming things he couldn't deliver, and we are still hardly the free flowing football team that was mooted he would bring. Plus I still think we could have been top two last year with the squad a that he inherited if he could have continued their trajectory. BUT he has moulded us into a really very effective unit and is improving all the time, so I feel my original language was far too intemperate, but I said throughout that I hoped he would improve. I'm actually starting to enjoy the clean sheets and defending more than slick passing at the moment. I actually shouted 'yes' when Ayew headed away a dangerous corner yesterday.
So after that self justification
I still wouldn't say he's oystandun, but he's a hell of a lot better than I thought he would be. So I was wrong, given we need stability. Do you want that bigger anyone? I WAS WRONG. He also seems to be growing up with his pressers. I really hope it all continues. The club actually feels as if it is on the up at the moment, with Scott, and the new youngsters' coach.
So after that self justification

Re: Steve cooper
Well I've obviously been biggest supporter since the beginning.
Some of our football still sucks but credit where it's due. The important thing is that the players are playing for him.

Re: Steve cooper
Not forgetting we sold our best centre half in the summer (who was getting rave reviews in the press today) have a very young pair of centre halves and 2 of the back 6 are loan players. Actually look forward to matches these days which I haven’t for a few years

Re: Steve cooper
Fulton is now an accomplished reliable asset who has been offered a new contract. The most telling moment with Fulton was when Cooper made him the playmaker by instructing him to hold his position and wait for the others to find him, which they did. A real talent on advising youngish players on how to believe in his methodology. Outstanding international level coach. Will go to the very top.

Re: Steve cooper
The quality of the players that he has helped to put together (signing in some cases, giving opportunities to in others Ayew in particular, ) but also his coaching is what brings the most out of some players who have struggled before with us or elsewhere.
The players clearly enjoy working with him and playing for him.
Last season, until we resumed, he seemed very hit and miss, since we resumed we have been excellent on the whole.
He will make mistakes and is still learning, but is by far the best actual coach we have had in years.
We will miss him when / if he goes.
It is a combination that make the players loo quality.
Look at Brewster - if we had got promoted and he had stayed with us, he would have been doing 100% better
Hats off to Cooper

Re: Steve cooper
I like others was a very vocal critic of Steve but I wanted him to prove me wrong and boy has he ever. Credit where it is due and its more than due. We are all united by the love of this club and we just want the best for it which is why we can be critical.
