Two things I'll always remember.
How completely outclassed we were.
The minutes applause for Chris Brown. Game stopped, all players and match officials applauding as well. Plus Leeds fans, fair play to them. Wonderful tribute, never seen the like before.
As for the match...I left half time...
These were our Summer transfers in. My suggested categories.
CATEGORY A EXCELLENT : Rushworth (L)
CATEGORY B VERY GOOD : but so frustrating they're injured - Ginnelly. Key.
CATEGORY C OK-ISH : Patino (L). Humphreys (L). Lowe (L)
CATEGORY D WHY DID WE BOTHER !! : Tymon. Ashby (L) Yates...
You can't tell me that this Southampton side is down to Russell Martin's management.
He just has inherited a quality squad and with pace in abundance. There's little tippy tappy sideways and backwards which used to bore me rigid when he was here. No need when he's now got a different...
I'm presuming their number one priority is decent financial profit for them and their client investors. Number two priority is success on the field for their reputation and for the fans/club. And better success means better returns.
However, year on year, the on field "success" is diminishing...
I confess to reading more on this Board rather than posting.....but is it me or is the interest in the Team on here just, well ...indifferent or uninterested.
I know we won yesterday, but after the Watford game, and the last few years, it feels we've had the joy sucked out of us...
...Fabianski I reckon. Solid competent goalkeeper, someone the defence can have confidence in. Decent on crosses, good shot stopper ( often catching rather than palming away) and can be alive to a row Z clearance if needed.
And that super long throw to Yates yesterday, well into their half...
Looking at new players already playing ...and those due to play.
Ginnelly was good today I thought on the left. I like him. Let's add Tymon on the left and potential for a good pairing.
Move Key over to right, I like him as well. Def in place of Ashby ( jury out).
Keep Patino in midfield...
Sunderland 5 Southampton 0...and this comment on Saints Forum -
Still can't get my head round the constant walking football when playing out from the back. The opponents get wise to it and know they have time to press and we end up giving it away in dangerous areas. The teams who play out from...
So...since last season anyone got a summary now of :
1. All departures
2. All incoming
In particular for incoming, what are their positions on the pitch.
Cheers
Pace and creativity.
Early days I know, but do we have them in our new squad ?
I'm more hopeful to tighten up the defence with the newbies due.
And even though systems can be changed, pace with skill is a beautiful and exciting thing to see on a football pitch.
I loved their No. 7 today...
I know we won yesterday. I'm glad of course, I love the Swans. But is it just me....I'm bored stiff with the type of football we play.
Don't get me wrong. As per Wigan goal we can sometimes play some lovely football - though we have to be conscious of the opposition standard. And the...
Look at this clip - for a moment, at the start, you might think it's a mirror of one of our typical mess-ups these days.
But this move ends up with a clear purpose. Unlike us. Now I know it's Arsenal but there was a time we were a lot like that. God, I miss that pace in our team
I know we...
I was only able to manage two away games in the last year.
The first at Wembley v Brentford. Steve Cooper the Manager. I was totally embarrassed at the Swans "performance"
The second yesterday at Forest. Steve Cooper the Opposition Manager. Even more embarrassed at the Swans "performance"...
Last Saturday's dire performance summed up our "style" of play as obsession possession with no tangible outcome. The " new ( and crap ) Swansea Way".
In my slumber in the East Stand, I drifted back to the halcyon days under Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup. Yes possession football, including long...
I was lucky enough to be at the game tonight, the win made even better by having Kevin Johns on the touchline again pre-kickoff. Welcome back Kev, he had a great reception from the fans, and well deserved. Who can forget his rousing speech at Wembley in 2011...let's hope history repeats itself...
