Here we go again…

The Swans are back in front of a near empty Liberty Stadium tomorrow when they welcome Sheffield Wednesday – and former Swans captain and manager Garry Monk – to South Wales as the season enters its final half a dozen fixtures.

With our play off hopes hanging by the thinnest of threads (trying to at least see a positive) you should be anticipating a performance from the Swans tomorrow.ย  That said it would have been fair to anticipate a performance against Millwall on Tuesday night and it never happened so let’s not assume anything ahead of the lunchtime kick off tomorrow.

It is probably fair to say that should we win our remaining 6 games then a play off spot is probably likely to be our destiny but it will take those six wins for us to get there and I am not sure we have the capability, talent or tactical nous to win six games especially with games against Leeds and Nottingham Forest included within those fixtures.

So when you weigh all of that in then it is pride and momentum ahead of next season that is what the Swans have got left to play for.ย  ย We have seen from the retained list that we will be even more heavily reliant next season on youth (and we assume some loan players) as the financial impact of our relegation two years ago still hurts us.

There should also be a factor that even those with their names on the retained list have a point to prove.ย  The likes of Byers, Grimes, Celina and Fulton have all failed to reach the standards that they set under Potter last season and you have to question whether that is a loss of ability or the change in coaching making them less effective then they were twelve months ago.

Of course once again we go into a game that will be played behind closed doors with a defensive headache on the back of the news that both Wilmot and Rodon will miss the remainder of the season and Ven Der Hoorn not fit (or at least not match fit according to Steve Cooper.) You would like to think that a start for Bersant Celina would be a certainty now but given the desire of Cooper to play a defensive looking midfield for most of the time that seems unlikely.

Sheffield Wednesday go into the game on the back of their own sub standard performance in midweek – a 3-0 home defeat to West Brom and Garry Monk is confident his team can provide their own bounce backย “I have never had that mentality to feel sorry for myself,” said Monk.ย  “You have got to come fighting back.

“When you are winning, you have to fight to keep winning and when you are losing you have to fight to come back.”

The game at the Liberty kicks off at 12pm, live on Sky Sports.
