Clement – That Was A Penalty

At a stage of the game where there was just one goal in it, going in level at half time could well have changed the way that the game was shaping up and maybe given Clement the momentum that he needed for his half time team talk.

Instead he had to stand and watch his team capitulate in the second half with three more Arsenal goals and a Liberty Stadium bow that he will want to forget.

Clement will be under no illusion tonight of the size of the task that is in front of him as he aims to keep the Swans in the Premier League with the only saving race tonight being that we did not lose any ground on the last safety space with our team just one point away from the safety spots despite being bottom of the table.

“Their goal came from a counter-attack when we were pushing forward a little bit and the last action was a bit of luck for them” said Clement in his after match interview

“We then had a big penalty claim. I thought it had been given initially, then when I spoke to the player, Ki, at half-time, he told me there was contact and it was a penalty.

“I have watched all the angles after the game – the referee doesn’t get that chance – and also Koscielny’s reaction, and it’s a penalty.

“I believe there are games where we are not expected to win – that’s maybe one of them today – and then there are games when we have to win.

“We have to make sure that when those games come around, we are in tip-top form going into them.

“At Crystal Palace, the players knew they had to win and they did. We have to really focus on that.

“This game, Liverpool away, Southampton home and Manchester City away is a tough run, but we have got to make sure we are improving our performances in these games.”
