Allen Bittersweet At His First Goal

There was tinges of joy and disappointment as Joe Allen discussed his first Premier League goal

Allen converted an inch perfect pass from Danny Graham on Saturday to give the Swans a two goal lead at Wolves and seemingly set them on the way to a first away victory in the division.

But two late goals pegged the Swans back and Allen descroibed the disappointment of that which had dampened his excitement at the first goal.

He told the Western Mail “I guess it’s a personal consolation to score. I have spoken about chipping in with a few goals myself if I can and it was a nice feeling to score my first Premier League goal

“But it would have been so much sweeter had it been a goal which would have brought home three points. It’s a shame.

“If you look on paper this is a point gained because it’s our first away draw of the season. It’s a bonus. But if anyone saw the game it’s a different story.

“The whole team has to take collective responsibility. We have a great back four and everyone knows that.

“Everyone knows our home record as a defence. The statistics are incredible.

“At the moment it’s not quite going for us away from home, but at the same time there are positives to take.

“Hopefully our first away point will help us kick on so we can pick up more.

“To come away from home in our debut Premier League season and be disappointed that we haven’t picked up three points shows how well we have played and also what we’re hoping to achieve this season.

“We understand we have to beat teams around us such as Bolton but we can’t have a must-win attitude.

“We’re as confident as ever going into the home games in particular that we can make it as difficult as possible for opponents.”
