De Vries Tips Swans To Stay Up

Dorus De Vries has tipped his former team mates to remain in the Premier League after the 2-2 draw at Molineux on Saturday

De Vries told the Western Mail after the game “They look pretty good and compliments to Brendan Rodgers, who has made some additions to the squad this season,” said de Vries, who kept 46 clean sheets in his last two seasons at Swansea.

“They try to pass around you, they’ve got a great midfield, quality up front and at the back as well.

“They have adapted to life in the Premier League very quickly.

“Given what I’ve seen on Saturday and in earlier games, Swansea can definitely stay up.

“They’ve got a great squad that have been together for ages and, with the couple of great new additions in there, they have good quality.

“With the philosophy they’ve stuck with over the last few seasons, there are a lot of positives.

“I talked to Michel after the game and he could totally understand my decision because it was the same for him when he left Utrecht,” added de Vries.

“For him it’s a great opening.

“It’s good that he’s playing in the Premier League because he’s a Dutch international.

“You always set personal challenges and to be involved in the Dutch national team would be a dream.”

The goalkeeper was given a mixed reception from the 2,000 travelling Swansea supporters, with some jeers when his name was read out before the game.

He added: “The reaction was normal and I would have expected a bit more if anything because I know how it’s been for other players that have left the club, like Jason Scotland.

“Lee Trundle was the only one who got a positive reception.

“What was really good to see was there were loads of Swansea supporters here.

“And something that was very dear to me was that familiar faces among the Swansea fans were asking about me.

“They wanted to see me so I went outside to see them, to give them autographs which brought back great memories.

“That’s something I really enjoyed because I had a great relationship with the fans.

“Some maybe don’t understand my choice, but sometimes that happens and Swansea will give me some great memories I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”
