Michel Vorm has confirmed his ambition to gain the Dutch Number 1 jersey although he accepts he has a tough job ahead of him
Vorm also revealed that he had followed the progress of fellow country man Dorus De Vries during his time with Swansea
Vorm was speaking after last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Norwich and told the Western Mail “I don’t know Dorus de Vries personally
“I did follow his time with Swansea simply because he was a Dutch goalkeeper who went to play in English football so I was interested.
“But I don’t know him and I don’t speak to him – but him leaving gave me an opportunity so perhaps I should thank him.
“I don’t know if playing for Swansea helps my chances with Holland – Stekelenburg is No.1 – but it is better and easier for me to be at this level and adapt to playing for the national side than it was when I was playing for Utrecht.
“It’s my ambition to be No.1 but you also must be realistic and Stekelenburg has done very well for the national side for a long period.
“The main thing for me is to play well for Swansea and I am particularly focussed on that – the Oranje is a bonus.
“I’m not going to turn up at the training camps miserable when I know I’m not playing. Are you crazy? I find it amazing every time I am called up.
“I just make sure I play well for Swansea and we’ll see what happens.”
