Strikers Remain On Rodgers’ Radar

The Swansea City manager secured a deal to bring Easter to the Liberty until January 31 but also admitted a move for Eidur Gudjohnsen amongst others as he looked to strengthen his squad.

“I want to bring in good players and, where it’s possible, I want to bring in top players. I won’t be afraid to try to make that happen.” he told the Western Mail

“From my time in the game, I know what top talents think so I made a number of enquiries and, although I knew it would be difficult to manage it in this window, I was also preparing for the future.

“I know Eidur well and he isn’t playing at Stoke and perhaps he needs games so why not? Tony Pulis was kind enough to accept what we were saying, but it wasn’t possible with number of players he has.

“I also spent a day with Carlo Ancelotti and Frank Arnesen, who have seen the impact Scott Sinclair has had here.

“Daniel Sturridge is obviously a top, young talent who is very close to the first team, so if in the future that possibility of him playing they know there is something for him here because he is still learning his trade.

“I will always build on my contacts to get very best players here.

“This is a wonderful place to play football and if we can be creative and make a deal work we can hopefully get one or two in to really push for second half of season.

“The idea this time was really about succession planning, to plan our success and make sure the clubs are aware of our needs and look to where we can marry up to their needs.

“Hopefully we can do that come January and get players in that can become real top talents for the group. It would be a symbol, but this can be an iconic year. The dream is in the distance but why not?

“It’s difficult because we don’t have ripe cash, and these players cost money, but if there are ways of being creative to make a deal happen we will do that.”
