Rodgers Remains On Striker Hunt

The Swansea City boss was speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Crystal Palace on the weekend and at the end of a week where Frank Nouble was recalled by West Ham.

Rodgers has remained on the look out for a striker since he arrived at the club and revealed that he made a move for James Vaughan but finances amongst other things ended hopes there whilst today’s papers again link him with a move for West Brom striker Simon Cox.

James Vaughan is a player we looked into bringing here,” Rodgers told the Evening Post.

“I spoke to David Moyes about him, but it was difficult to get him here because of finances and what-not.

“The money for this season has always been tight, and we just have to make sure that what we do spend goes on the right type of player.

“The club have been fantastic for me since I came here. We have signed Scott Sinclair and a free transfer in Kemy Augustien who hopefully is going to go on and be a terrific player for this club.

“But we are also aware that the squad is probably carrying one or two players too many and that it may take one or two transfer windows to get the squad we want. I am not crying. The players we have here have been fantastic.

“It’s an area I have always said I want to strengthen, but I don’t want to bring just anyone in

“This is a special club and the group here has a unique mentality. There are decent players out there who we have looked at but who won’t fit our mould. There are good strikers around, but it has got to be the right money for us and the search continues.

“We have a bit of money to spend, but not lots.”
