The Swansea City man has been ruled out for up to four weeks thanks to a hamstring problem but there is good news on the horizon with Gower reportedly close to a new contract at the club.

Brendan Rodgers told the Evening Post “Coming into the season Mark was not sure whether he was going to be here or not

“But he has been very, very good for the team and the group.

“He is a good guy. He is a very gifted player and he is right up my street in terms of mentality — he’s a winner.

“We hope to tie him up a on a new contract very soon because his contributions will be valuable for the group both this year and next.

“We are quite well advanced with the contract,” he added.

“Most things are done. There are just one or two bits and pieces to sort out.”
