Sousa: We Are Pleased With The Way It’s Going

The Swansea City manager has seen his side reach the giddy heights of 4th place in the Championship and this weekend they travel to Newcastle to take on the league leaders.

Backed by a travelling Jack Army of 2,700, Sousa though is not thinking play offs and accepts that there will be set backs from time to time.  An eleven game unbeaten run stretching back to September is no reason for the manager to get complacent though as he told the Evening Post

“We are pleased with the way things are going

“When you win you are happy, but we know that in football there are lots of variations.

“At the beginning of the season, we started to walk and now we have started to run.

“I hope we can carry on running, but sometimes, if you need to walk to run once more, that’s what you have to do.

“At the beginning (of the season) people were talking only about our salvation,” Sousa points out.

“We need to be happy with the run we are on, but we must also recognise that it’s not enough because there is a long way to go.

“The players talk about the play-offs — they talked about it in the newspapers after we beat Cardiff, and I’m sure they talk about it together.

“But I don’t talk about it with them. I talk about training, about what we can improve and about what strategy we need against our next opponents.

“It’s important that everyone has a dream because a dream feeds people

“You need to have targets, but also you need to know how to achieve things this season.

“Only by working hard and giving our best together can we do that.

“When we lose focus on what we are doing, we become a normal team,” Sousa says.

“We play different football from our opponents, that’s what the club want.

“But to win games we need to keep our focus. When we lose it for 10 minutes against teams like Cardiff they will punish us.

“Sometimes we don’t have time to recover from these mistakes.”
