Rangel: I Won’t Lose My Temper This Time

The Swansea City defender was one of the three people to see red in the Carling Cup tie at the Liberty and has vowed not to repeat that misdemeanour when the two sides meet in the league next weekend.

Rangel saw red for an elbow on Matthew Sparrow shortly after Gorka Pintado was sent off for his second bookable offence.

And Rangel has promised to keep his temper next weekend and keep himself available for the games to come.

He said “Whatever happens at Scunthorpe I will not lose my temper like I did in the Carling Cup game.  I made a massive mistake that night and I’ve learned from it.  You can’t lose your cool during a game.

“Scunthorpe are a physical side and fight for every ball.  But I won’t get distracted by any aggressive play on Saturday.  I will just walk away from it.

“The red card in the Carling Cup was horrible because I was suspended for three games.

“I felt guilty sitting in the stands watching the team.  The manager had a go at all three of us.  He told us we should use our brains on the pitch and said he hoped it never happens again.  I thought he might fine us but he let us off and we were very grateful for that.

“I’m sure if we’re sent off again he will fine us.  But as far as I am concerned there will be no repeat.   I can’t wait for the Scunthorpe game because I want to show everyone Swansea are a better team than them.

“We will be going there looking for three points that will be our focus.

“We were much better than them at the Liberty.  They only won because we had players sent off.  Even when we were down to nine players we had chances to win.  The referee wasn’t very experienced and I think he felt the pressure.

“We reacted well to that defeat.  We’ve had a good run since then and climbed up the table.

“We’re a fantastic side on the ball.  We’re not a dirty side.   We can ambarrass teams when we have possession and that’s what we’ll be trying to do at Scunthorpe.

“We’ve also got Cardiff coming up which is one of our biggest games of the season.  Everyone at the club wants to be involved in that one.  Then we’ve got Derby and Newcastle so it’s a massive month for us and another reason not to get into trouble.

“A red card at Scunthorpe could mean missing those games.”
