Great Britton Targets Ipswich Win

Wolves were beaten 3-1 at the Liberty in Swansea’s last Championship encounter two weeks ago – a victory that lifted them to 8th place in the Championship table.

And after two weeks break through internationals the Swans return to action this afternoon at Ipswich with midfielder – and possibly player of the season so far – Britton targetting another three points which would maintain the Swans promotion.

Speaking to the Western Mail ahead of the game, Britton said “That game has to be a springboard to better things, when you get a win against a team that are fancied to be up there at the end of the season, it gives everyone a confidence boost.

“And, when you beat the top of the league, it shows we do belong and can compete at this level if we play to our standards. We know we can give all the so-called big teams a good game on our day.

“Over these next few games we have to keep the momentum going. It’s important that we build on that result as much as possible.

“The confidence is high now and we are looking forward to a busy period over the next fortnight or so. But we can’t get carried away because overconfidence will just create problems.”

He continued: “The Wolves game was a great result for us. They came down top of the table and were flying really, but we played really well and got three points.

“I know people might say they had injuries and everything. But you can only beat what is in front of you and that is exactly what we did.

“Now it’s on to Ipswich after the international break and it’s just important that we get straight back into the thick of it.”

The Swans sixth game on the road this season will see them looking toimprove their record away from the Liberty – wins over Preston and Plymouth and been mixed in with defeats at Charlton, Crystal Palace and Reading

“We haven’t done that well on the road so far,” Britton added. “That’s something we need to improve.

“Last year we picked up a lot of points on the road and it was a really strong point for us. This season that just hasn’t been the case yet.

“But the 2-0 win at Preston may well be the turning point for that. It was a good performance and hopefully it will kick-start us away from home.

“We want to carry that on at Ipswich and we just need to make sure we are at the races for the first half an hour. That way we will be in the game and have a good chance of getting something from it.”
